World War I veteran. Served overseas with Truck Company D, 4th Corps Artillery Park, American Expeditionary Forces. He was with the Army of Occupation at Mayen, Germany in January 1919 and Kerben, Germany in March/April 1919. An August 1918 letter from Camp Wadsworth appears to show an earlier assignment to Company K, 54th Pioneer Infantry, where he reported being appointed corporal. He was at Camp Merritt, New Jersey in early September 1918 before departing overseas.
